I STOOD THERE ONCE: New Paintings by Bill Scott

An Exquisite Afternoon, 2022, by Bill Scott, oil on canvas, 60 x 78 inches

Opening this Thursday, September 8th, in Chelsea, is I STOOD THERE ONCE, New Paintings by Bill Scott, at Hollis Taggart, 521 West 26th St., first floor, New York, NY.

This selection of vibrant abstracted landscapes in oil, completed between 2021 and 2022 is Scott's 9th solo show with the gallery.

An Exquisite Afternoon, 2022, by Bill Scott, oil on canvas, 60 x 78 inches, is shown above.

The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with an essay by collage artist and art critic Matt Gonzalez, an excerpt here:

"Evoking the fluidity and freedom of the watercolor medium he returned to in recent years ... this new group of oil paintings by Bill Scott appear to be created without constraint or pretense ... Bill has the courage to let his art evolve, to allow his intuition, training, and innate talent guide his experimentation in the studio ..."

"... Using one of his many thoughtful, evocative titles, this exhibition called I Stood There Once subtly reveals the visionary worlds conceived by Bill, a notion that is so astutely discussed in Matt Gonzalez's revelatory essay. Bill once stated, "I am apt to paint what I subconsciously yearn to see. Or a depiction of an imaginary place where I'd metaphorically like to be."
